Fred Roberts Jr, passed away on June 8, 2019 in Lumberton, North Carolina at the ripe age of 80 years.
He was born in Rowland, North Carolina on July 28, 1938 to the late Mr. Fred Roberts Sr. and the late Mrs. Lucille Richardson Roberts. As a young lad the family worshiped at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age. Fred was raised and nurtured in a loving christian home. After graduating high school at Southside in Rowland , Fred moved to Philadelphia, PA. While living there he enlisted in the United States Marines and served many tours which granted him the opportunity to travel to many exciting places abroad and in the United States. He also served in the Marine Corps Reserve and that tour landed him in California. Fred was a proud veteran and at the end of his career received an honorable discharge. Fred continued to lived in Philadelphia before moving to Atlanta, GA, where he spent more than 20 years, creating a life for himself and following his dream which was to own his own business. He accomplished that dream and was quiet fruitful in the community in which he lived.
Fred loved life and loved to travel. He made friends wherever he went and he never met a stranger. He was well aware of current events and could hold a conversation on most subjects one brought up. He loved his family and he loved the Lord. He was a proud native son of Rowland, NC.
Fred returned to his hometown and his place of birth 3 years ago in search of peace and quiet after the hustle and bustle of the big city. He spent many happy days on the porch of the family home on Hickory Street when the neighbors would pass along and greet him as “Mr. Fred”.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Haywood Roberts also his sister Clara Culmer.
Left with sweet memories of Fred are those who loved him the most; his three children, Marie Gantt, Patricia Roberts and Fred Roberts, III. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren as well as a host of beloved extended family and friends
