Ms. Laura Helen Smith, daughter of the late Ms. Annie Jane Smith and Mr. James Albert McLean, was born May 24, 1950 in Robeson County. She attended school in Robeson County and, in 1967, ventured to The Bronx, New York, where she attended the Metropolitan Career Institute and obtained certification as an administrative assistant. Shortly thereafter, she gained employment as an intern for the New York City Department of Health, in the Vitals and Statistics depatrment. She eventually transitioned from state government into the health field, and worked as a home health aide for Progressive Home Health Services for over 25 years before beginning her war with cancer in 2006. Throughout the last 11 years of her life, Ms. Smith vehemently battled various forms of cancer, experiencing intermittent periods of remission, until the final chapter of her life story was written and received a stamp of approval on January 9, 2018. “In her lifetime, she was a faithful member of Salvation Deliverance Church, and a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend.
In addition to her mother and father, Ms. Laura Smith was preceded in death by 1 son, Daniel McLean Sr. and 2 brothers: Clarence Smith and Robert Smith.
Left with precious memories are: her 3 children: Ezell Green Jr., Crystal Smith, and Terrence Smith; 8 grandchildren: Shannon McLean, Daniel McLean Jr., Ezell Wilson, Sequan Smith, Shavon Smith, Ze’Nya Green, Kayla Smith, and Kayden Smith; 4 great grandchildren:Zy-Kira McLellan, Anasha Graves, Mason Smith, and Marquail Dixon; 7 brothers: James Smith (Darlene), Flint, MI, Lee Smith (Pamela), Bronx, NY, Donald Smith, Rowland, NC, James McLean Jr. (Cornelia), Rowland, NC, Jasper McLean, Rowland, NC, James Willie McNeil (Jeanette Lee), Fairmont, NC, and Michael McLean, Rowland, NC; 5 sisters: Evelyn Smith (Everett McArthur), Bronx, NY, Louise Smith, Rowland, NC, Barbara Jackson, Fayetteville, NC, Karen Smith, Rowland, NC, and Katrina Vincent, Rowland, NC; 4 special daughters: Janice McLean, Nina Wilson, Nancianne Abramson, and Karima Davis; a spouse, Henry Wren Jr.; a stepmother, Gladys McLean; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
