Mary Alice McCormick Smith, was born June 28, 1945 to the late Mary Sue McLean McCormick and Booker T. McCormick Sr. of Rowland, NC.
Mary Alice received her education from the Public Schools of Robeson County. At an early age she joined Beauty Spot United Methodist Church. Later years in life she confessed and received Christ as her personal Savior. She was a quiet person and enjoyed her fellowship with the Seasoned Spirit Senior group here at Beauty Spot UMC.
She was employed and worked for many years at Converse and other manufactural industries in Robeson County.
Mary was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. William Smith. To this union nine (9) children were born. Two (2) preceded her in death, William Jr., and Randy. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Sonatae, her biological father Mr. Leroy “Buck” Thomas, nine (9) siblings, Betty Lee, Charlotte, Nathan, Teresa, Paree, Booker T. Jr., Ronald, Leroy, and Francine.
Mary was a devoted wife, loving and caring mother and loyal friend to many. She enjoyed fishing, walking for exercise, gardening, and had a deep passion for sewing and quilting. Mary also loved going to signings and listening to gospel singers on the radio.
Mary Alice leaves her fond memories to be cherished by her husband William of the home, four (4) sons, Kenneth Earl, Bronx NY, Eric (Ryan), Hamlet, NC, Dan of the home, and Warren of Louisville, Kentucky, three(3) daughters Mary Ann McCormick, Rowland, NC, Shirlene and Gwendolyn Smith of Lumberton, NC. 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, three(3) brothers, John McCormick (Levern) Bronx, NY, Gilbert Earl (Vazeela), Acworth, Ga. and Johnny Smith (Shirley) of Rowland, NC, six (6) sisters Bonnie Sinclair (Al) Lumberton, NC, Mabelene McLean (Gary)Rowland, NC Helen Nicholson, Lumberton, NC, Glenda Thomas, and Vielena McInnis(James) of Rowland, NC, and Olena Williams, Durham, NC, 7 brother-in-laws, 8 sister-in-laws, a special cousin Beatrice Watson, and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends
