On Wednesday, July 04, 2018, in the morning around 9:53 a.m. Mr. Hubert Lennon quietly slipped away leaving behind all worldly cares. Hubert was the youngest son of the late Mr. Aldine Lennon and the late Mrs. Mary L. Williams Lennon. He was 78 years old. He along with his siblings grew up on the farm and he became a pretty good farmer himself.
Education & Work: As a youth, he and her siblings went to school in Marietta at the Elementary School there and then on to high school at Rosenwald in Fairmont. He was the class clown and was the jokester of the crowd. After graduating from high school he worked at several textile mills to name a few: Contempora Fabrics, Converse, and was farming the family farm during all this. His last public job was with the Department of Transportation in Conway, South Carolina.
Church Affiliation: During his early years the family worshiped at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Evergreen in the Lennon Crossings Community. As the children grew older they joined the community church where they lived and where their friends attended and so did Hubert. This was Ebenezer Baptist Church where he first acknowledged that this day would surely come, when he would need a Savior.
Character and Strengths: Hubert was good at lending a helping hand to the farmers in the community. He took the advice of those older farmers and learned from them after his dad passed. He was always sharing his vegetables with others. He always planted enough for someone else and God sent the increase. He was a hard worker and a good community worker and everybody in that Marietta community either knew or knew of Hubert Lennon or “Lennon Boy “ as he liked to call himself. He loved his fast cars, Cowboy boots and hats and horseback riding. He would race his horse on Sunday evening with the fellows in the community and most times would win the race. He enjoyed riding horses, planting and growing vegetables and bragging about his tobacco crops.
Survivors: His children: Four sons: Terrell Lennon and Keith Lennon, Anthony Lewis (Wendy), Herbert Kelly (Lisa) ; Two daughters : Retia Lennon and Sonya Lennon (Shelia Lennon preceded him in death) Six Sisters : Girthel Lennon , Jennette Lennon Nichols and Geneva Watkins all of Fairmont, North Carolina; Evelyn James and Marie Barnes of New Jersey; and Lillie Mae Green of Ohio; a very special friend, Mrs. Patricia Moore; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren ; Three Aunts; Ella Nora Williams, Alma Williams of North Carolina and Helen Williams of New Jersey and other nieces and nephews.
The family acknowledges with appreciation, all prayers, all acts of kindness, words of encouragement, and sympathy extended during the illness and passing of our father. Special thanks to the Southeastern Hospice House staff. May God bless each of you.
