Mr. Johnnie Blue, son of the late Mr. Rich Blue and the late Ms. Donnie Stackhouse Blue was born in Robeson County, North Carolina in 1934. He passed away on June 24, 2018 at the Lumberton Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lumberton, North Carolina at the golden age of 83. Mr. Johnnie was always young at heart and lived a good life.
He was educated in Rowland, North Carolina and after completing the eighth grade he like many of the boys his age was forced to drop out of public school to help work the farm. He was out of school but he never stopped learning. He soon got a job working in construction and was very good at his trade. After many years of construction he landed a job with public work in the Town of Rowland. He loved his town and enjoyed working and serving people he knew and grew up with and those he didn’t know, until he retired.
Mr. Johnnie lived the life of a bachelor and had lot of friends. He was happiest when he was on the baseball field. He loved the game of base and his position was the” bat boy” and was pretty good at it. He also loved singing. At a young age he joined Magnolia AME Church in Hamer, South Carolina and remained a member there. He sang on the Men’s choir the adult choir. He loved listening to gospel music as well. He was already to support the church with the Sons of Allen University Project which provided grants to the AME churches.
Although he will be out of our sight physically, Mr. Johnnie’s memory will always remain in the hearts of those who loved him most; his extended family: his Two Moms: Ernestine and Margaret Graham: his brothers Henry, Robert, James and Kenneth; Sisters , Zula, Mable, Mary, Barbara, Lenora, Paulette, Virginia, Ella, Mary Margaret, and Brenda. He leaves a host of nieces and nephews; his first cousins Odessa Baker, Louise Ladson, Rosanna Ladson and Charles William Ladson and of other relatives and friends.
