Purvis Lorenza Townsend Sr. March 25, 2019

Mr. Purvis Lorenza Townsend, Sr. 69, of Lumberton, passed away on Monday March 25, 2019 at Southeastern Health in Lumberton. He was the son of the late Matthew Townsend and the late Etta Brown Hill Townsend.  “Lo” was a quiet , soft spoken guy and was loved by many.  He was a loving son, brother, uncle , father and friend. Feeling the need to serve his country, after graduating from Proctorville High School he enlisted in the United States Army in 1971. He served for five years before receiving an honorably discharged .

As a child Lorenza attended church at First Baptist Orrum and after returning back home in Robeson County, he returned to his roots and again  participated in church events, even singing with the men’s choir.  He became a  trustworthy police officer and was employed  with the Lumberton Police Department for years.  Having a desire to put his entrepreneur skills into action he managed his own Asphalt / Concrete company and paved many parking lots in North and South Carolina.   Lately he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Lorenza now adds his link in the chain of death to those who preceded him, namely his parents, his sister Sonya Carter, and brother Benjamin Townsend.

Left to cherish precious memories of Lorenza are  one daughter Shanta Townsend, one son Lorenzo Townsend Jr., a very cherished grandson Dontrell Townsend. a very special friend and partner Ms. Patricia Thompson who was the mother of his children and the grandmother of his grandchild.  She was also his caretaker until God called him home.  He also leaves to cherish memories two brothers Travis Townsend, and Napoleon Govan; his stepmother,  Minnie Townsend; and  many other nieces, nephews cousins and special friends.

The Funeral Will be held at the First Baptist Church in Fairmont, NC 301 North Main Street at 1:30 Sunday March 31, 2019. There will be a 30 minute visitation with the family before the service. Burial will follow in the Maranatha Garden Cemetery off Revah Road in Fairmont. NC with military rites.
